Symphonic Orchestra

The Salamanca Conservatory Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1995, emerging from a personal initiative taken by former Chair of Violin, Isabel Vilá, in order to provide students with a top-level ensemble for the enhancement of student performance skills and opportunities, as well as to promote the accomplishments of the teachers and students through cultural programs in the surrounding city and region. Since then, the orchestra has presented programs in a wide range of concert venues in north-central Spain, especially in Salamanca, as well as in the Teatro Monumental in Madrid, L´Auditori in Barcelona, and other important concert halls throughout Spain.

Just as the Conservatory strove in its beginnings to be always one step ahead of other Spanish educational institutions in the application of upgraded laws regarding the arts, in the same way, it has attempted to create a line of orchestral politics which would reach beyond traditional Conservatory rehearsal systems. The orchestra was pioneer in the celebration of intensive rehearsal schedules, concentrating the work in periods of approximately 10 days, a method which has enabled the orchestra to prepare outstanding concert programs, beginning with preliminary analysis and sectional rehearsals and concluding with the tuttis. Theory and practice converge in the final objective, which comes together in the final sessions with top guest conductors such as German master Lutz Köhler, who has conducted on a regular basis since the orchestra´s beginnings up to the present date. Other prestigious international artists have also served as guest conductors, including Pablo González, Philippe Bach, Florian Donderer o Donald Portnoy.
